As a marketer, data is the lifeblood of much of my work. It provides insight into our users, helps us identify what content is most useful, and creates internal transparency about our communications efforts. My love for data is shared across Rigor, so when our COO posed the question “What are our most useful blogs?” I couldn’t resist digging in deeper.
To determine which blogs were the most useful, I looked to key visitor metrics, such as pageviews and time spent on page. Theoretically greater usefulness corresponds with greater visits. As I dove into the data , I noticed a significant trend in term: the most popular blogs we published pertain to website optimization.
While it certainly isn’t the only factor in improving user experience, website speed is vitally important, and optimizing content delivers easy performance wins.
Of the top Rigor blogs ever, four address optimizing video. Given the prevalence of video and its propensity to be a performance suck, it’s not surprising these blogs are so popular. Increasingly, businesses are leveraging video to deliver engaging content. According to marketing automation company, Hubspot, 43% of people want to see more video content from marketers. Despite this demand, video isn’t a perfect medium. Hubspot also found that the average video retains only 37% of viewers for the whole duration. A slow loading video is going to decrease that statistic even further.

Slow page response and load times can be the result of a number of factors, and while server response times are not usually the primary bottleneck, there are still ways you can optimize your response times to improve your page’s performance. Another poor user experience are unnecessary redirects which is why this blog on How To Avoid Landing Page Redirects is also on our top blog list. Redirection increases the amount of time it takes for a site to render, and so the use of redirects should be limited to optimize page performance. That said, there are some instances in which a site requires redirection, and this should be implemented in a way so that users see as little delay as possible.
