Web development teams that focus monitoring and improvement activities solely on application availability miss many opportunities for improvement. To help address this gap, Rigor’s Optimization platform is all about finding and translating specific performance problems in your app into actionable steps you can take to improve overall performance.

Rigor continues to build tools that enable teams to better identify and resolve issues early and often. To further this mission, Optimization has scripting functionality that can test multi-page flows using source code saved or copied from the Selenium IDE recorder, the industry standard for browser automation. As an added bonus, Rigor Monitoring and Optimization now use the same Selenium scripting framework, so the two platforms work even more seamlessly.

Optimization already can plug in to build systems, so with this new feature you can instantly add automated performance testing into your development cycle. By doing so, your development team and operations team can test using the same scripts and same methodologies; they are now on the same page of music.

Performance Timings and UX Data

We’ve also added performance timing and user experience data that better enable teams to pinpoint areas of improvement. To do so, Optimization now includes performance timings, such as time to first byte or Onload, as well as user experience metrics, such as Speed Index and Visually Complete. These are all alongside performance defects.

This is significant because these metrics help provide context to the performance problems Optimization discovers by showing you the impact of those defects on the performance of the site.

Download Full HARs with Content

Rigor Optimization and Rigor Monitoring are incredibly powerful at helping customers monitor, trend, and resolve performance issues with their digital properties; however, we know that people often uses a mix of tools and products, both commercial and open source. With that understanding, Rigor enables you to easily work with other tools because we now allow you to download from any snapshot a standard HAR file or a full HAR with all content bodies embedded. The latter option gives you a complete picture of what happened on your website at a particular point in time, including an exact copy of all images, CSS, Javascript and other resources that were downloaded by the browser when the problem occurred. This is useful for debugging problems at specific points in time that may have changed in future updates since the initial problem occurred.

These changes to the Optimization platform pave the way for other incredibly useful features in the future, so stay tuned!
