Today we’re pleased to announce a powerful new data visualization tool for the Rigor Optimization product: the Content Explorer!

The Content Explorer is an interactive visualization tool to help you better understand the size, location, and makeup of all the content loaded by a webpage. With the Content Explorer, you can quickly identify oversized resources and third party resources that may have been included unintentionally on a site. You can also easily “drill down” on individual components to discover where the largest potential performance optimization gains can be made, download optimized versions, and learn more about the impact of related performance defects.

To learn more, check out this short video demonstrating the features of the Content Explorer.

To use the Content Explorer, click the new Content Explorer button from the Rigor Optimization Performance Snapshot.

Once loaded, the explorer will show a connected graph visualizing all the content loaded by that snapshot, organized either by referenced host or file type. Use filters to search for specific content, show only resources with potential optimizations, or show only first or third party content.

Drag any node in the graph for a better view of the results, or click the node to zoom in for more detail. Charts in the footer will update in real time to reflect a summary of latest filtered selections.

Zoom and click any file to view a summary of performance defects and any available links to automatically optimized files or resources.

To exit the Content Detail view click ‘x’ or click outside the modal. To Zoom Out in the Content Explorer map, click the Zoom Out button, click the breadcrumb, or click the ‘Back’ button in your browser.

This Content Explorer visualization is automatically generated for any snapshot and can be viewed for historical snapshots as well. When using the Content Explorer for full website crawls or multi-page tests, the map will represent all content examined during the snapshot, not just the content loaded by a specific page in the snapshot.

We hope you find this innovative new tool a useful and educational resource for better understanding what resources are included by your site, and which resources can be eliminated or optimized for a faster performing site.

Ready to give the Content Explorer a try? Log into Rigor Optimization and find the button on your existing snapshots, or book your Rigor kickoff call today.
